Janet L. Gooch became chancellor of the University of Illinois Springfield and Vice Presdent for the University of Illinois System on July 1, 2022. Chancellor Gooch leads a university that serves more than 4,600 students, with nearly 200 full-time faculty, more than 550 full-time staff and a budget of $135.5 million. The Finance and Administration division is responsible for developing and executing the campus budget and monitoring the campus’ financial health. Athletics
The UIS Athletics department supports the university’s 18 varsity sports programs and provides student-athletes with opportunities to compete and succeed academically and athletically. UIS is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and competes at the NCAA Division II level. Sports include volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, track and field, softball, golf, cross country, tennis and the university’s newest sport, flag football.
