The University of Illinois System held a Ceremony of Investiture for UIS Chancellor Janet L. Gooch on Feb. 8, 2023, in UIS Sangamon Auditorium. The investiture served as a ceremonial acknowledgment of her appointment to the top UIS post.
During her speech at the investiture, Chancellor Gooch shared her aspirations for UIS. The Ceremony of Investiture also featured remarks from Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, University of Illinois System President Timothy L. Killeen, U of I Board of Trustees Chairman Don Edwards and Truman State University President Susan L. Thomas. UIS Associate Professor and Chair of the Campus Senate Celest Weuve and Student Government Association President Kyle Stauder also spoke.
Gooch officially took office as UIS chancellor and vice president for the University of Illinois System on July 1, 2022. She came to UIS from Truman State University, where she served as executive vice president and provost. She is the seventh person to lead the Springfield university.
