As part of the university’s NorthStar strategic visioning initiative, the University is announcing a Voluntary Separation Plan (UIS-VSP) available for all employees who meet the eligibility requirements as outlined in the plan including that they have satisfied the retirement age and service requirements under the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (“SURS”) prior to August 15, 2026 and who have not provided a written notice of resignation or intent to retire from UIS prior to the Plan Effective Date.

To assist the university in snow removal, on Monday, January 26 all students and employees should park in a plowed parking area regardless of your parking hangtag. During a Snow Parking Day, vehicles parked in standard permit lots (blue stripes) with economy permits (yellow tags) will not be ticketed for unassigned lot violations.

There will be limited access to the 4th floor of Brookens due to necessary roof repairs. This facility update affects the entire fourth floor of the building, including the library stacks and study spaces. If you need to request materials from the fourth floor for pickup at the circulation desk, please consult this brief overview of the process.

The University of Illinois Springfield Police Department is advising the campus community of hazardous winter weather conditions expected over the next 72 hours, including extreme cold temperatures, dangerous wind chills, and the potential for icy travel conditions.

While UIS remains operational at this time, community members are strongly encouraged to take appropriate precautions to protect their safety and well-being.

UIS is committed to protecting minors that visit campus so they can enjoy the wonderful events and programs our community offers. For departments that want to offer programs to minors (persons under the age of eighteen (18)), our Protection of Minors page has detailed information on planning and hosting an event for young visitors.

As part of the University of Illinois Springfield’s ongoing commitment to digital accessibility and compliance, the UIS Web Team has begun distributing weekly accessibility reports to campus units through Siteimprove.

These reports are a key tool in helping units identify, prioritize, and address accessibility issues on their websites as we work toward meeting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) accessibility compliance deadline of April 2026.
