World-Class Teaching

The Division of Academic Affairs is committed to hiring an increasingly diverse faculty with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, improving teaching assessment and feedback systems, recognizing and rewarding high quality teaching, and investing in ongoing development of faculty efforts to integrate teaching, scholarship, outreach, and service activities. The following general goals have been developed in support of this priority:

Strategic Plan

The Division of Academic Affairs has developed operational plans in support of the promise and potential of UIS’ Strategic Compass to provide students with a Premier Educational Experience. Academic Affairs

The Division of Academic Affairs advances UIS’ academic mission by integrating high-quality teaching, strategic planning, student success, research, and institutional effectiveness. We serve students, faculty, and staff through inclusive engagement and data-informed leadership that fosters innovation and excellence.

Academic HR

We provide leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, and administration of academic employment policies and procedures to support UIS units, academic employees, and the University community.

The University of Illinois Springfield has created three new schools to better serve students and meet the needs of our Capital Region community, including the addition of new degrees and minors that are now open for enrollment.

Oral English Proficiency

The University of Illinois Act (110 ILCS 305/7c) states, “The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois shall establish a program to assess the oral English language proficiency of all persons providing classroom instruction to students at each campus under the jurisdiction, governance or supervision of the Board, and shall ensure that each person who is not orally proficient in the English language attain such proficiency prior to providing any classroom instruction to students.” At UIS, evaluation procedures for the oral English proficiency requirements are administered by the Provo
