UIS provides a unique, student-focused educational experience that emphasizes learning in and outside of the classroom. Every measure has been taken with the utmost care and consideration to support safety for living, learning, working and training at UIS. We are United In Safety.

Fall 2021 Operations

The University of Illinois Springfield maintains an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff. Therefore, vaccination is required for all on-ground students, faculty and staff. The campus community is required to participate in weekly (vaccinated) or twice-weekly (unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated) saliva testing at the on-campus testing site Aug. 16 - Sept. 16. For testing location and hours, and more information about frequency: COVID-19 Saliva Testing | University of Illinois Springfield (uis.edu)

Operations and events for fall semester are based on the level of community and campus transmission. In most cases, UIS will operate based on the highest level of transmission if community and campus transmission rates differ. Learn about on-campus scenarios based on transmission rate on the Approach to Safety page.

Fall 2021 Vaccination Policy

The University of Illinois Springfield maintains an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff. For the fall 2021 semester, all UIS on-ground students, faculty and staff will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Medical or religious exemptions are available. The student and employee policies were developed to align with CDC and American College Health Association (ACHA) guidance and the UI System’s vaccination guidelines.

Fall 2021 course modalities can be located on a student’s schedule by accessing their Self-Service account. Any changes to modality will be noted on the schedule and communicated to registered students. To the extent practical, UIS will work with individual students who are not vaccinated and do not qualify for an exemption to identify a path forward to continue their academic progress off campus. Students are encouraged to work with their academic advisers to map out a plan if they do not intend to comply with the campus vaccine requirement and do not qualify for an exemption.
