Biography
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a vital figure of the modern era. His lectures and dialogues stirred the concern and sparked the conscience of a generation. The movements and marches he led brought significant changes in the fabric of American life through his courage and selfless devotion. This devotion gave direction to thirteen years of civil rights activities.

Hispanic/Latinx/e Initiative
Our mission is to create a warm, supportive environment where Hispanic and Latino/a students can thrive academically and socially, develop leadership skills, prepare for a successful professional career, and embrace and promote their diverse cultures while feeling at home on the UIS campus and in the Springfield community.
Men of Color Initiative
The Black Male Initiative (BMI), a pilot project established in 2010 by the UIS Diversity Center intends to increase, encourage, and support the inclusion and educational success on male identifiying students of color, particularly African American Males (AAM). The program assists students in both, their academic and professional endeavors, promotes and advocates for an improved educational experience and quality of life at the University of Illinois Springfield.

The Diversity Center offers a diverse range of programs, activities and workshops that are educational, cultural and social. Committed to supporting and promoting multicultural awareness, the staff develops program that increase understanding and appreciation of all cultural differences by familiarizing the campus community with the contribution and histories of African American, American Indian, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, International, LGBTQ, White, Gender and all Cultural Diverse Students.

About the Diversity Center
The Purpose (In Higher Education)
The Diversity Center provides a forum for students with a common bond to unify and support each other and share their cultural achievements with the university community. The Diversity Center is an educational, social, and political force on campus to represent and advocate for the concerns and problems of all diverse students.

Asian/Pacific Islander Events
Asian/Pacific Islander Programs provides the University of Illinois community with an opportunity to share experiences of our diverse and rich cultures. The APISR promotes cross-cultural understanding that supports the academic and personal growth of students, along with learning experiences that help shape a lifetime commitment to ethical and engaged citizenship.
