Think Like a Student: Engaging Online Classroom through Clear Design and Communication

Join Kat Novak - 2023 Burks Oakley II Distinguished Online Teaching Award recipient

What would you want from an online course you were enrolled in? What would keep you motivated and enthusiastic? “Engaged students are more likely to persist, achieve, and enjoy their online learning experience” (Singh, A., Singh D., Chhikara S., 2024). Engagement involves meaningful interactions with the online instructor and peers, as well as with the materials, and “becoming at least somewhat emotionally involved” with one’s learning (Dixon, 2015). Join me in a discussion of engagement tactics from the point of view of the student taking the course.
