ENG 101 and 102 Assistance

The Hub’s embedded writing tutors assist ENG 101 and 102 by attending the class once a week and helping the instructor with in-class writing activities. One embedded tutor is assigned to each ENG 101 or 102 section.

Workshops & Walk-Ins

Online Workshops

Online workshops are offered to all current UIS students. We conduct online workshops using online meeting software. The online workshop will follow the same format as the on-campus workshop with a brief lesson, discussion, and practice of the topic.

Placement Testing

Placement Testing Subjects

English

All incoming first-year students (non-CAP Honors) who need the full first-year writing sequence (ENG 101 or its equivalent) will need to take a placement test.

The Office of Testing Services in HRB 112 administers the ACCUPLACER WritePlacer Exam. This exam may be taken in person or remotely. ACCUPLACER exams provide a more in-depth assessment of students' skills and help college administrators and advisors determine the most appropriate class placement for their new students.
