Thomas Gebhardt has been named the University of Illinois Springfield Employee of the Month for February 2022. He is a building service worker who has worked at UIS since 2010.

Gebhardt’s nominator praised his efforts to keep the Visual and Performing Arts Building (VPA) clean and sanitized during the COVID-19 pandemic, calling his work “truly impressive.” VPA houses the Art, Music and Theatre Department.

“Thom has routinely sanitized the entire building, with special attention to studio spaces,” said his nominator. “These spaces are the lifeblood of the department and essential to student success. While every effort has been taken by UIS arts faculty and staff to insure the safety of students, it remains necessary for students to access the studios and equipment to complete their work. This would not have been possible without Thom’s focus and attention to safety.”

Gebhardt’s supervisor, Patricia Meyer, said he “takes pride in his work” and cares about pleasing the faculty, staff and students in his area.

“He is always willing to do extra and willing to take on more to help out,” Meyer said. “When others call off, Thom is always willing to step in and help get cleaning done in other buildings. He will offer to help and does not wait to be asked.”

Gebhardt brings a positive attitude to his daily routine.

“He is friendly, always greets everyone and is inviting to students, faculty, staff and the public,” Meyer said.

Gebhardt rarely misses work and always arrives early.

“He keeps his areas clean and takes a lot of pride in his job and how his building looks and making people happy that he serves,” Meyer said.
