Dear Colleagues —

On June 1, President Killeen announced a 3.5 percent, merit-based salary program for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Similar to past years, this salary program is to be distributed at the discretion of the unit head. Distribution of the salary increases should be based on merit-based factors, including the employee’s 2022 performance evaluation. Employees will be deemed ineligible for an increase due to one of the following reasons:

  • The employee began working for UIS on or after April 1, 2022.
  • The employee received a new position with a salary increase, a permanent promotion with a salary increase, or a permanent off-cycle increase not related to the UIS Minimum Wage Compression Plan on or after April 1, 2022.
  • The employee is on a notice of non-reappointment that is not related to a reclassification from Academic Professional to Civil Service.
  • The employee received an Unacceptable, Needs Improvement or Non-Meritorious as a final ranking on their 2022 annual evaluation.
  • The employee has submitted their intent to resign or retire effective Aug. 15, 2022, or earlier.
  • The employee is a student worker.
  • The employee holds a temporary position, including Adjunct faculty, Extra Help and Academic Hourly employees.
  • The employee is a retiree rehire.

Civil service employees who started working for UIS before April 1, 2022, but are still within their probationary employment period will not be eligible for this merit-based salary program until satisfactory completion of the probationary period.

Employees who received an increase pursuant to the UIS Minimum Wage Compression Plan and who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to receive up to 1.75% in the merit-based salary program at the discretion of their unit head.

Pay increases for faculty and staff in bargaining units will be determined by negotiations with the bargaining representative and/or applicable contract settlements, and are not subject to unilateral adjustments unless authorized or permitted pursuant to the collective bargaining process.

As in past years, units will be provided a salary increase worksheet by Aug. 1. Units should use that worksheet to submit the increase requests. For those who qualify, the merit-based salary program will be effective Aug. 16 for faculty and academic professional employees and Aug. 21 for open range civil service employees. Please direct any questions to Human Resources at uishr@uis.edu.

Thank you,

Janet
