F&S News You Can Use

Construction Website Update: We are excited to announce recent enhancements to our Construction and Renovation webpage. We have refined and revamped the page to make it easier than ever to find and access construction-related information. Take a moment to explore the changes - we're confident you'll find it more user-friendly and easily navigable than before.

Building Temperatures: With the unseasonably warm weather, indoor building temperatures may be a bit higher than usual. We understand the importance of comfort in the workspace, so please feel free to use a personal fan to help cool your workspace. We appreciate your cooperation as we navigate through these warmer conditions together.

Construction Highlights

UIS Softball Field Updates

In coordination with our partners in Athletics, F&S recently wrapped up projects supporting our soccer and softball teams.

A new scoreboard was installed at the softball field, a testament to the exemplary work of our electricians.

Our carpenters demonstrated their exceptional skills in assembling an announcer's cart for soccer. This is a versatile, portable unit for use across multiple fields and it awaits the season kick-off!

UIS Campus LED Lighting Updates

F&S recently completed the replacement of outdated lighting around the Colonnade with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting. The installation of LED lighting will not only reduce energy consumption but will also contribute to a greener campus environment. This forward-thinking endeavor is a Green Project initiated and funded by the UIS Green Fee Committee.

UIS VPA Roof Replacement

We are delighted to announce the completion of the VPA roof replacement project! The worn-out, shaggy shingles over the southern portion of the building have been replaced with a more durable and long-lasting metal roof. This project suffered setbacks due to worker shortages and material production and delivery delays, but we have finally reached the finish line.

UIS Student Union Sculpture

Facilities & Services will be overseeing the temporary removal of the sculpture, "Obstruction Reflection Transition," located at the southern end of the quad just outside the Student Union. Removal is necessary to facilitate essential restoration work aimed at preserving the sculpture's integrity.

We understand the importance of this artwork to our campus landscape, and every effort will be made to have the restored pieces reinstalled in time for the upcoming graduation ceremonies.

UIS Campus Preparations for Commencement

Preparations for Commencement

Preparations for the upcoming commencement ceremonies are in full swing as our dedicated Grounds crew takes on a deep cleaning initiative at the Colonnade. The crew is methodically and carefully power-washing the colonnade area of the quad. The results of their efforts are remarkable as you can see from the photos to the right - and even more so in person. The Colonnade provides a picturesque backdrop for graduate photos, and work is on schedule for completion in time for commencement.

Upcoming Projects

Here's a glimpse of what's on the horizon:

RTU Replacements: F&S will commence the installation of new rooftop units (RTUs) at the Human Resources Building (HRB), the Student Life Building (SLB), and the WUIS building in the coming weeks. These new RTUs will improve reliability and efficiency.

UHB Hot Water Loop Repairs: Repairs to the UHB hot water heating loop are planned for the week of May 13. There will be no interruption to the domestic water system (drinking fountains, sinks, and toilets). During this time, you may notice ladders, tools, and equipment in the hallways and common areas, as well as the temporary removal of ceiling tiles to facilitate access to the piping system.

Stay tuned to Orbit and Campus Announcements for further details as these dates draw near.
