The UIS women's track and field team will begin its outdoor season at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis on Thursday evening and Friday, followed by Millikin's Big Blue Alumni Invite in Decatur, Ill., on Saturday.
The WashU Distance Carnival primarily features heats of the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races, with select heats of additional distance events throughout. On Thursday evening, Maddie Miller, Jordan Serrahn, Kaleigh Inniss, and Lauren McBride will compete in the 10k. Miller returns to action after earning All-American honors at the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships just two weeks ago.
On Friday, Allison Thompson will race in the 10k, while eight Prairie Stars will compete in the 5k throughout the day. Several athletes will make their outdoor debuts, including Josslyn Gaona, who threatened the program's freshman record in the 3k during the indoor season.
The Prairie Stars will then head to the Big Blue Alumni Invite on Saturday, where they will compete in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m events. Runners to watch include Marissa Roggensack and Lillian Buzani in the 1500m, as both had breakout performances in the mile during the indoor season. Program record holder Niyah Udoiwod will also compete in the high jump.
