The Illinois Springfield baseball team secured two wins over Missouri Southern on Saturday, improving its overall record to 24-10 and extending the win streak to 15 games. The first game featured a dramatic comeback, highlighted by an Ethan Bowers grand slam. In game two, starter Mark Decicco delivered a complete-game performance for the win.

GAME ONE | W, 6-4
  • The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning while starter Ben Benoit worked to find his rhythm, stringing together a single, double, groundout, and sacrifice fly. They extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a pair of hits.
  • UIS got on the board in the fifth with a solo home run from Ivan Dahlberg.
  • In the seventh, Dahlberg walked, Johnny Wendling was hit by a pitch, and Michael Paule entered as a pinch hitter and delivered a single to move both runners. Jackson Blemler followed with an RBI single to bring in Dahlberg, making it 3-2.
  • With the bases loaded, Ethan Bowers delivered the highlight of the day — a walk-off grand slam to secure the 6-3 win.
  • Benoit pitched four innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Kannon Walker shut the door with three strong innings of relief, giving up just two hits and earning the win to move to 6-0.
  • Bowers led the Prairie Stars at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
GAME TWO | W, 6-1
  • The Prairie Stars struck first again in the second game, capitalizing on two singles, an error, and a wild pitch to take an early lead. The Lions responded with a solo home run in the second, but UIS would answer in the third.
  • Kody Morton drove in Noah Caceres with an RBI single, and Johnny Wendling launched a two-run homer to extend the lead. Ty Hollandsworth added a solo shot in the fifth to make it 6-1.
  • Mark DeCicco threw a complete game, allowing just five hits and one run while striking out six. Wendling led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Mark Kattula also went 2-for-3.
