The UIS baseball team faced a tough challenge in its doubleheader against Indianapolis on Saturday, falling 10-6 in the opener and 3-0 in the second game. UIS drops to 8-9, 3-4 GLVC, while UIndy improves to 8-10, 2-1 GLVC.

GAME ONE | L, 10-6
  • UIndy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run single, and extended its advantage to 3-0 in the second inning with an RBI single.
  • In the third, UIndy added two more runs to make it 5-0 before UIS responded with a three-run rally. Ethan Bowers doubled to left field to score Jackson Blemler, followed by a single from Mark Kattula that brought Bowers home. Michael Paule then doubled to center field, scoring Kattula and cutting the deficit to 5-3.
  • UIndy answered with a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 8-3. The Greyhounds then added two more runs with a triple and a sacrifice fly for a 10-3 lead. 
  • UIS mounted a comeback in the fifth and sixth innings. Michael Paule's sacrifice fly brought in Johnny Wendling in the fifth, and two more runs crossed the plate in the sixth. Mark Kattula reached on an error, scoring Jackson Blemler, and Michael Paule flied out to right field to bring in Ethan Bowers, narrowing the score to 10-6. Despite the effort, UIS couldn't complete the comeback, and UIndy held on for the win.
  • Ben Benoit (1-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over 2.2 innings on eight hits, with two walks and one strikeout. Brayden Mayer pitched 2.1 innings, giving up five earned runs on three hits, while Quinn Hoftender delivered a scoreless two innings of relief.
  • Jackson Blemler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Bowers and Kattula both went 2-for-4. 
GAME TWO | L, 3-0
  • Mark Decicco (0-3) started on the mound for UIS and delivered a solid 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. He did not allow a walk and struck out nine, but a solo home run in the second inning put UIndy ahead early.
  • UIndy added two more runs in the seventh on a two-RBI double, extending the lead to 3-0. Austin Loberger pitched the final inning for UIS, allowing two earned runs on two hits.
  • UIndy held on for the 3-0 win as UIS tallied just four hits in the game. Decicco took the loss despite a strong outing.
