Maddie Miller set a new UIS school record in the outdoor 5,000-meter run on Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. Miller ran a personal-best time of 16:27.78, placing 8th out of 24 runners in Heat 1.

With the performance, Miller now holds the UIS records in the indoor 3K and 5K, as well as the outdoor 5K and 10K—solidifying her place at the top of the program's all-time distance leaderboard.

Her time narrowly edged the previous school record of 16:28.85, set by Taryn Christy in 2021, and currently stands as the fastest 5K in the GLVC this season. The top conference time entering the weekend was 16:45.10, giving Miller a strong chance to top the updated GLVC performance list and potentially secure an NCAA Division II ranking.
