UIS monitors the spread of COVID-19 on our campus daily through saliva-based testing and self-reporting from students, faculty and staff. This data, combined with community health statistics and advice from the Sangamon County Department of Public Health, helps the UIS COVID-19 Rapid Reponses Team determine whether to implement mitigation strategies and to what degree.
A number of mitigation strategies have been identified to help stop the spread of infection on campus and will be deployed based on a comprehensive view of the campus’ overall health (campus metrics + situational factors).
Mitigation strategies may include but are not limited to:
Close or limit physical traffic to certain on-campus facilities
Decrease gathering capacity or require virtual-only gatherings, meetings and events
Cancel or postpone events
Discourage visitors to campus
Allow carry-out only in the Food Studio and Starbucks
Transition all classes to remote delivery for a period of time
Issue a campus-wide stay-at-home order utilizing the RAVE alert system
Limit on-site work to essential personnel only
Increase testing frequency
Implement enhanced face-covering rules
UIS posts online the daily and overall testing numbers, the daily campus positivity rate and seven-day rolling positivity rate. The UIS Testing website is uis.edu/covid-19/testing.
