Chancellor Susan J. Koch’s monthly column discusses college student mental health. “College is a challenging life stage that can include significant mental health challenges,” says Koch. Research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry reports 20 to 36 percent of college students exhibit “serious psychological distress” while only one-third receive treatment. A system-wide summit on the topic is planned for later this year.
