University of Illinois Springfield Continuing and Professional Education will offer four academic summer camps for high school students in June and July. Each experience will be led by a UIS faculty member and will offer students a challenging, fun and affordable summer experience.

Programs include:

  • “Quantum Computing for Engineers of Tomorrow” June 19-21 at UIS. The three-day camp will teach high school students about the fundamentals of this emerging field, including quantum mechanics, circuits, algorithms and programming with real quantum computing software like Qiskit and Quantum Inspire.
  • “Civic Engagement and Leadership: Big Problems, Big Ideas” June 20-22 at UIS and the Illinois State Capitol. The three-day camp is designed for incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors (ages 15-18) with a passion for policy, government and public service. Students will visit the Illinois State Capitol and will meet with experts from the government and non-profit sectors.
  • “UIS Crime Scene Investigation” July 12-13 at the UIS Residential Simulation Lab. High school students will learn to investigate a crime scene utilizing the Residential Simulation Lab. The criminology, chemistry and child advocacy studies programs will collaborate to create an experiential crime scene, utilizing interviewing skills and problem-based learning.
  • “UIS Summer Journalism Camp” July 17-21 on and off campus. This five-day camp offers incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn from industry veterans and UIS faculty. The camp will focus on developing writing, reporting and production skills. In the mornings, learn vital skills and receive coaching from current and former professional journalists. Afternoons are spent in the field, working on real stories and exploring the UIS campus and the capital city.
