As finals draw near, we know this time can bring extra stress, long study hours, and added pressure for students. While doing their best academically matters, mental health and overall well-being are just as important.

Here are a few gentle reminders to be mindful of for students to practice during this busy season in the semester:

  • Take Breaks: Short, regular breaks can improve focus and help prevent burnout.
  • Stay Active: Even a quick walk or stretch can boost your mood and energy.
  • Prioritize Sleep: Aim for 7–8 hours of rest to keep your mind sharp and support memory.
  • Eat Nourishing Foods: Balanced meals help fuel both your body and your brain.
  • Reach Out: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, please remember you’re not alone. Consider talking with a friend, professor, or counselor.

The UIS Counseling Center is here to support students. Whether they need someone to talk to or tools to manage stress, help is available:

  • Visit the Counseling Center website for resources and information.
  • Take a free mental health screening to identify symptoms early: Start Screening.
  • Join Togetherall, a free and confidential online community for all UIS students—a safe space to connect and receive support: Register Here.

Walk in or schedule an appointment online

All on-campus students have access to free counseling services. Online-only students are encouraged to reach out so we can discuss resources and options that fit their needs.

Remember: Remind students they are strong, capable, and never alone. Encourage them to take things one step at a time and be kind to themselves as they finish the semester.

Warm regards,
UIS Counseling Center
