Dear Colleagues and Friends of UIS,

Commencement 2024 is rapidly approaching, and we’re looking for volunteers to help make this year’s Commencement Ceremonies memorable for our students.

Three commencement ceremonies (divided by college) will be held to celebrate our graduates on Friday, May 10, 2024, and Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the Sangamon Auditorium in the UIS Performing Arts Center. As a volunteer, you’ll assist with activities like setup, helping graduates with their caps and gowns, directing guests, and generally being a friendly face. You’ll join fellow volunteer staff, alumni and friends in ensuring rewarding ceremonies - and help graduates celebrate a milestone achievement.

This year, there will be three ceremonies – you can volunteer to assist with one, two or all three. Volunteers are asked to report to the Sangamon Auditorium by 5:30 PM (for the 7:00 PM Friday Ceremony), 8:30 AM (for the 10:00 AM Saturday Ceremony) and/or 1:30 PM (for the 3:00 PM Saturday Ceremony). Volunteers can generally leave shortly following the start of the ceremony, but are welcome to stay and enjoy the festivities.  Volunteers planning to work both ceremonies on Saturday will be served lunch.

A brief orientation with fellow volunteers will be required prior to commencement. Commencement day is always full of high spirits and thousands of happy faces and we hope you will be one of them!

Please complete 2024 Commencement Volunteer Registration Form if you are able to volunteer at one, two or all three ceremonies.

Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!
