Dear Campus Community,

As our nation’s cell service is gradually being restored to most affected customers, please keep the options below in mind if your cell service is still out.

  1. Landline phones are located in all reception areas for departments on campus, and at front desk locations in the Founders and Lincoln Residence Hall.
  2. All modern cell phones have the option of enabling wi-fi calling, which will place calls through the Wi-Fi network rather than the cellular network.
    • On an iPhone, you can find this option under Settings – Phone – Wi-Fi Calling
    • On an Android, you can find this option under call settings (this process varies based on which phone you have)
  3. The Rave Guardian app and uispolice@uis.edu will still communicate with the UIS Dispatch Center through the UIS Wi-Fi network.
  4. If you don’t have adequate Wi-Fi to place a Wi-Fi phone call while needing emergency assistance, you can still dial 9-1-1, but please do not call 9-1-1 to test your phone, and keep in mind they are currently seeing an increase in call volume.

Unless there are further major outages, this will likely be our last correspondence on the issue. However, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 217-206-6690 if you have any questions.

Thank you,

UIS Police Department
