The Prairie Stars picked up a win in game two to split Saturday's doubleheader with Indianapolis, improving to 25-16 overall and 13-9 in GLVC play. The two games were the team's only contests of the weekend.
GAME ONE | L, 1-0
- Rosie Bartletti struck out a single-game record 16 batters, setting a record for the second weekend in a row, but the Prairie Stars came up just short in a 1-0 pitcher's duel.
- Bartletti started strong with three strikeouts in the first inning, and UIS put a runner on third in the bottom half but couldn't cash in. The Prairie Stars loaded the bases in the second after singles from Adi Rumler and Bartletti and a hit-by-pitch to Nyla Cooper, but UIndy escaped the jam.
- UIS tallied at least one hit in each of the first five innings but couldn't string them together. UIndy scored the lone run of the game in the sixth, capitalizing on a hit-by-pitch, a single, and a fielder's choice.
- Bartletti (14-7) allowed one unearned run and six hits over seven innings, striking out 16 Greyhounds.
- Six different Prairie Stars recorded one hit each, including a double from Taylor Zawacki.
- UIS jumped out early in game two and held off a late Greyhounds rally for the win.
- Ella Brinkley led off the bottom of the first with a single and came around to score on a pair of errors. In the third, Nyla Cooper delivered a two-RBI double to extend the UIS lead after Zawacki was hit by a pitch and Malia Bender singled.
- The Stars tacked on two more in the fifth on a fielder's choice and a UIndy error. The Greyhounds responded with four runs on five hits in the top of the sixth, prompting a mid-inning pitching change as Taylor Zawacki took over in the circle.
- Zawacki closed the door, striking out two of four batters in the seventh to earn the save. She went 1.2 innings, allowing just two hits. Bartletti (15-7) earned the win, striking out five over 5.1 innings while giving up four runs on eight hits.
- Malia Bender went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Adi Rumler finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Brinkley also had a two-hit game.
