The Illinois Springfield men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Maryville at home on Friday night, despite second-half scoring. The Prairie Stars drop to 2-8-3, 1-7-2 in GLVC play.

The match began with the UIS establishing a defensive stance, which was highlighted by Landon Amick's save in the 28th minute from a shot by Sebastian Weitlaner. Robin Lemke Bergseth tested the Saints' defense, with two attempts on goal, both saved by Steen Nielsen. Despite these efforts, neither team managed to score in the first half.

As the half closed, the Prairie Stars remained vigilant, fending off multiple attacking efforts from Maryville. Corne Boshoff's late shot went wide, keeping the score level at 0-0 as the first half concluded.

The Prairie Stars took the lead in the 61st minute when Jack Hudson scored, assisted by Jero Bencomo. Despite a series of fouls, the home team maintained pressure, with Bencomo nearly adding another goal shortly after, but his shot was saved by the Saints' goalkeeper.

Momentum shifted in the 84th minute when the Saints equalized with a penalty kick goal by Weitlaner. Maryville continued its offensive push, taking the lead in the 87th minute with a goal from Jacob Lund-Iversen, assisted by Sivert Roeberg.

Hudson made the most of his single shot, finding the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season. Bencomo contributed with an assist and managed to get his only shot on target. Amick, as the goalkeeper, recorded three saves while facing 12 shots throughout the match.
