The UIS Athletics Department has added an accomplished athletics professional to its staff with the hiring of Peter Young as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Services.
"We have added an exceptional athletics professional to our staff by selecting Peter Young to lead our compliance services area," said UIS Director of Athletics Mike Hermann. "Not only does he bring the perspective of a former student-athlete with a network of contacts as a Springfield native, but he is also a well-respected and accomplished professional who recently served as interim Director of Athletics at a fellow GLVC institution. His depth and breadth of experience will be a true asset. I look forward to him leading our vital compliance services area and also contributing in many other ways to our athletics program."
Young brings extensive NCAA Division II compliance and athletics administration experience to UIS. He served as an Interim Director of Athletics at Truman State University, overseeing all 18 varsity programs and handling compliance, eligibility, and student-athlete support. Prior to that, he was Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations at Truman State, managing day-to-day operations and helping support the department's programs.
A former Division II student-athlete, Young played varsity baseball at Truman State, earning First-Team All-GLVC honors as a pitcher in 2017. He holds a Master of Professional Studies from Missouri State University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Truman State.
As the department's Associate AD for Compliance Services, Young will lead efforts to ensure NCAA and conference rules compliance while contributing to broader departmental operations and student-athlete success initiatives.
A product of Springfield's Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Young returns home to join the UIS Athletics Department, bringing years of Division II athletics experience to the role.
