The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team returns to Kiwanis Stadium this weekend for a pair of GLVC contests. The Prairie Stars will host Drury on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before taking on Missouri S&T on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
On Friday, UIS will celebrate Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night at soccer. All UIS faculty and staff members invited by student-athletes will be recognized before each game. This tradition gives student-athletes the chance to thank professors and campus staff who have made an impact on their lives.
On Sunday, UIS will host its Cancer Awareness soccer games. Ribbons will be available for purchase to support cancer recognition and awareness, with proceeds going to the Tessa Sutton Foundation.
Illinois Springfield (1-4-3, 0-3-2 GLVC)
UIS is still searching for its first conference win after dropping a pair of matches last weekend, falling 5-1 at Rockhurst and 1-0 at Southwest Baptist. Mallory Herber and Addison Wittenberg scored the Prairie Stars' two goals on the road swing. Against SBU, UIS recorded 12 shots and 5 on target, but the team will look to be more clinical in front of goal to stay in the GLVC chase.
Defensively, the Prairie Stars lean on experienced defenders led by Anna Schurz, Makenna Yeager, and Taytum Scarborough. Goalkeeper Gigi Yurevhich has started the last three games and appeared in every match this season.
Drury (3-2-2, 2-1-2 GLVC)
The Panthers enter the weekend in the upper half of the GLVC standings, coming off a scoreless draw with No. 11 Maryville and a 2-0 loss to McKendree. They previously picked up conference wins over Missouri S&T and Lincoln.
Drury's attack features multiple scoring threats, with Holland Hawkins, Keira Love, and Elena Perez each contributing two goals. Hawkins is second in the GLVC with 4.43 shots per game. Katy Fitzler anchors the defense with a 1.00 goals-against average and .844 save percentage.
The Panthers were picked second in the GLVC preseason poll following a 16-3-4 season in 2024, which included a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
Missouri S&T (3-3-1, 1-3-1 GLVC)
Missouri S&T has shown balance this season, allowing just 1.14 goals per game while spreading scoring across eight different players. The Miners are coming off a 1-0 loss at Missouri-St. Louis and a 1-1 draw with nationally ranked Maryville.
Freshman Aubrey Case made history against the Saints, scoring just 14 seconds into the match for the fastest goal in Miners program history. Adriana Benassi leads the offense with four goals and ranks top-10 in the league in both goals and assists (3). Brooke Bendoff has also added three assists.
In net, Anastasia Barcom and Madeline Falls have split time, with Barcom posting a 0.83 goals-against average and .867 save percentage.
GLVC Standings Outlook
The middle of the GLVC table remains tight, with just four points separating fifth-place Truman State (10 points) and ninth-place Missouri S&T (4 points). UIS currently sits with two points from draws but will aim to climb into the mix with its home matches this weekend.
