The UIS women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium. The Prairie Stars fall to 1-6-3 overall and 0-5-2 in GLVC play.

The Miners went on the attack immediately at kickoff, which UIS was able to handle initially. The Prairie Stars held them off as starting goalkeeper Makenna Miller made several saves, but S&T would strike twice in the first half. Adriana Benassi broke through for an unassisted goal in the 17th minute, just inside the right post. Less than two minutes later, Benassi set up Allie Workman with a cross, who doubled the lead to 2-0.

Missouri S&T outshot UIS 11-1 in the first half, forcing the Prairie Stars to spend much of the period on the defensive. The second half featured slower, back-and-forth play with few clear chances for either team. UIS had its best opportunity with 11:40 remaining when Addison Wittenberg sent a neat cross to Mallory Herber, but it was stopped by the Miners' goalkeeper.

UIS finished with four total shots, including one on goal from Herber. Miller made five saves in 69 minutes of action, while Maddie McGregor came on for the final 21 minutes in goal, marking her first action of her collegiate career.

"Credit to Coach Perry and his team for executing their game plan and making the first half difficult for us. I am proud of how we came out of halftime and put pressure on their back line." said head coach Scott Myers. "It was a tough weekend for us, but we will get back to work this week and look to rebound against Lincoln on Friday."
