From the UIS COVID-19 Rapid Response Team

We are excited to announce that, in partnership with SHIELD Illinois, the UIS COVID-19 saliva testing site is now offering free tests to the public. A separate “community lane” has been established in the lower-level PAC testing area for community visitors. The free tests are being funded through an agreement between the Illinois Department of Public Health and SHIELD Illinois using federal relief money.

Please note:

The UIS COVID-19 Testing Site has moved to the Student Union. New summer hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Please refer to prior email communication or the UIS Testing website for more information.

UIS Associate Professor of Communication Kathy Novak, Ph.D., was only a few weeks into her COM 407 Photojournalism and Photo Documentary Class when Illinois began to shelter in place and UIS students returned home to begin remote learning.

Until the COVID-19 pandemic shut the doors to on-campus learning, Associate Professor of Ceramics Shane Harris had never taught an online class.

His ceramics and 3D art classes are hands-on and require studio space and materials.

When she couldn’t meet students face-to-face, UIS Associate Director of Student Life Marie Watson stepped out of her comfort zone and into the social media spotlight.

The University of Illinois Springfield is planning to offer more in-person classes next fall. UIS has been following COVID-19 testing and United in Safety protocols that have kept its seven-day rolling positivity rate below 1 percent for most of the fall and spring semesters, well below national and regional averages.
