IT Governance

Information Technology Services works with the university community as a whole and, specifically, with technology-focused units across the campus to identify strategies, emerging technologies, standards, infrastructure, and services in support of the UIS mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Information Security Policy

  1. In order to manage information security risks, University Community Members must ensure that their actions with respect to Data and IT Resources and their electronic devices and other resources that store, transmit, or process Data meet:
    1. the Information Security Standards policy, and
    2. all applicable laws, University policies, and University contractual obligations.
  2. Individuals must report known non-compliance with this policy and its Information Security Standards to the University

Instructional Technology

UIS students, faculty, and staff have access to a rich collection of software applications and hardware for general computing, research, and multimedia development.

Faculty may request additional software and or hardware in support of their instruction by sending e-mail to Kara McElwrath [kmcel2@uis.edu] with a description of the classroom need. Requests must be made eight weeks in advance, and request fulfillment is contingent on availability of funding.

Cyber Security

ITS wants to help the campus community to stay safe online by providing access to Cyber Security Training, information about data privacy, and great information as we participate in the National Cyber Security Awareness Month every October.

Cyber Security Training

In an effort to better educate the UIS Campus Community about cyber security we are providing training. Please login to the University of Illinois System’s Security Education Platform to see the topics that are available.

Campus-Wide Survey Policy

Due to the prevalence and ease of administering surveys to a large population, “survey fatigue” is common among university populations.  The lower response rates on surveys decreases their validity and wastes the resources of student, faculty, alumni, and staff time, as well as expenses incurred for nationally normed surveys (eg. National Survey of Student Engagement).

Therefore, the UIS Institutional Data Steering Committee (IDSC) is implementing this Policy to coordinate surveys at our university.

Technology Support

ITS Client Services is the primary point of contact for technology questions, problems, and issues. Support is available to all UIS faculty, staff, and enrolled students.

Technology Support that ITS Client Services offers through walk-in, phone, email and chat. Some services are only available if you come into our office as a walk-in customer. If you have questions about the best way to contact us for your particular situation, please give us a call and a consultant will be able to direct you.

IT Security

ITS has partnered with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Technology Services to provide IT Security here at UIS.

Security has become a crucial issue for interacting in a digital age. The following guidelines are intended to promote safe computing habits while using the UIS and other computing resources.

Contact Security

ITS is dedicated to keeping both the University’s data and its users safe from cyber threats. We’re here to help protect our campuses data, personal information, research, devices, and more.
