SciFi Study Break

You deserve a break during finals week.  Stop in at the Campus Observatory on the 5th Floor of Brookens Library to have some candy, see some friendly faces, and watch a little science themed TV while you take a load off. If the weather is nice we'll open the roof and have out the solar telescope.

The Campus Observatory is accessed through the inside of Brookens Library.  Go into the library and take the main stairwell or elevator up to the 5th floor.  The door for the observatory is next to the elevator.

Open House for Grads & Families

Join us Friday, May 9, 3-4 pm to celebrate graduates and welcome their families to campus.  The Campus Observatory will be open as a place to meet and relax on a hectic Friday.  Weather permitting, we will open the roof-top deck and get out the solar telescope to share safe views of the Sun.  Sponsored by the campus Space & Astronomy Group. All are welcome.

Astronomy Day Star Party at Lincoln Memorial Garden

UIS, in partnership with Lincoln Memorial Garden and the Sangamon Astronomical Society, will co-host a star party from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Lincoln Memorial Garden, 2301 E. Lake Shore Drive in Springfield.

Telescopes will be set up in Cawley Meadow, offering views of the Moon, planets Jupiter and Mars, and other celestial objects, including star clusters and nebulae. Constellation tours will also be provided.

Space & Astronomy Group Meeting

The campus Space & Astronomy Group is composed of faculty, staff, students, and community people who share an interest in outer space, space travel and astronomy.  We have biweekly meetings at the Campus Observatory during the fall and spring semesters where we discuss our interest and plan other fun events to share with the larger community.

Meetings are open to anyone and people should feel free to drop in at any time over the hour.
