UIS Speech and Debate Ends the Semester on a High Note

SPRINGFIELD, IL (December 14, 2020) – UIS Speech and Debate participated in their final tournament of the semester during finals week. The Online Asynchronous Tournament Series (OATS) first tournament was hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN. This tournament was the team’s fifth virtual competition of the semester.

The team earned three awards at this competition. Senior Sarah Burris won third place in poetry interpretation and third place in program oral interpretation. Lisette Cortes-Benitez placed seventh in informative speaking.

The University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about effecting change in their communities.
