UIS Finishes the Season at Novice No More Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, IL (April 26, 2021) – The UIS Speech and Debate Team completed the 20-21 season by participating in the Novice No More Tournament hosted by Northeastern State University and Liberty University. Schools from all corners of the nation took part in this end-of-season celebration tournament for novice competitors.

Lisette Cortes-Benitez represented UIS at this competition be entering informative speaking. She earned high marks through the preliminary rounds and came within a single rank of advancing to finals in the event. Timothy Bill, her coach and the director of the team noted that his is “incredibly proud of Lisette. She has put in a tremendous amount of work this year, which is especially noteworthy since the season took place during a pandemic. She has grown a lot as a speaker and as a leader.” The team will take a few weeks off before beginning preparation for the 21-22 competitive season.

University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about effecting change in their communities.
