The UIS softball team picked up two wins on Saturday against the Quincy Hawks behind complete game appearances by two underclassmen pitchers. UIS improved to 5-5 in GLVC play while Quincy fell to 3-5.
GAME ONE (W, 3-1)
- Ella Brinkley found her way to first base with a single before stealing second. Brinkley found her way home after two sacrifice bunts for a 1-0 lead in the first
- Quincy managed a run in the second inning to tie the game
- UIS grabbed the lead back on an RBI groundout in the fourth
- The Stars added another run in the 7th with a pair of doubles
- UIS ended it with a 1-2-3 inning
- Rosie Bartletti improved to 7-4 with the complete game win
GAME TWO (W, 8-5)
- Ella Brinkley homered in first for a dominant start to the second half of the doubleheader
- Quincy fought back, plating two runs in the first to lead the game briefly
- Sophie Margelot scored on a groundout in the second to tie the game
- UIS went up 5-2 with four hits in the fourth inning
- The Hawks would leave two on base in the bottom of the fourth
- The Stars plated three more runs in the fifth, an inning which started with three singles. Ella Brinkley scored on Taylor Zawacki's hit, then Adi Rumler's 2 RBI single scored Taylor Zawacki and Isabella Wilson for the stars to lead comfortably 8-2
- Quincy found one final run in the 6th
- Alexis Carroll is 7-4 with the win. The freshman now has five complete games this season
