Men's track & field Prairie Star Noah Tegeler has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. Tegeler was the top collegiate finisher in the men's 5,000 meter run at the Jim Vargo Invitational in Louisville, Ky. over the weekend.

Tegeler took third place behind two unattached athletes in his first outdoor 5,000m of the spring season. His time of 14 minutes and 47 seconds ranks him sixth in the league. He appears in sixteenth position on the Midwest Region performance list. It was the No. 6 men's outdoor 5,000m time in the history of the program at UIS.

The Junior from Effingham, Ill. earned the first All-GLVC honors of his career in indoor track & field in February when he took third place in the men's 3,000 meter run. He is currently projected to qualify for the GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races.

It is Tegeler's first career Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Award. The last Prairie Stars' Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Award went to Chris Cherry (4/12/23).

Tegeler will take on the 10,000 meter run at the La Verne Leopard Distance Carnival on Friday night.
