Dear Students and Colleagues:

Today, the UIS administration and faculty union bargaining teams had our 12th bargaining session of the calendar year—our ninth session with the independent federal mediator.

Much progress was made. I am pleased to share we reached a tentative agreement on three items that I believe are important to our faculty. We continue to work to reach agreement on a few remaining items, the most significant of which is compensation. The University’s most recent offer showed meaningful movement on salary, including a creative solution to recognize the contributions of our faculty while continuing to address the fiscal challenges we face.

The parties have agreed to meet again this Friday afternoon. Given the progress we made today, I am even more hopeful we will arrive at a fair agreement soon.

I will send another email to the university community after the session on Friday. Please continue to refer to our negotiation website for up-to-date information.
