History

Katie Brethorst loves history and theatre! The University of Illinois Springfield junior recently wrote her own play about the life Susan Lawrence Dana, who commissioned Springfield’s famous Frank Lloyd Wright home, and performed it on campus. Brethorst is also involved in the UIS Theatre Program, works for the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office, and is a staff writer for the student newspaper. This summer, she’s working for Fever River Archaeology at the Springfield Race Riot dig site. She’ll be creating informational displays about objects uncovering during the archeological dig. Following graduation, Brethorst plans to earn her master’s degree in public history at UIS. She hopes to one day become a museum curator and create exhibits and displays for historic sites and museums.

Leadership is lived at UIS. Every day.
