The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team split Saturday's contests, but ultimately fell in a tightly contested series to Indianapolis. The Prairie Stars moves to 19-14 on the season with a 10-10 record in GLVC play. UIndy improves to 20-11 on the year with a 16-4 conference mark.

GAME ONE (W, 8-6)

  • In the early stages neither team was able to bring runners around to score

  • UIS took a lead in the third inning as Johnny Colombo scored on a wild pitch

  • The Prairie Stars opened the game up in the fourth with six runs

  • Johnny Colombo doubled to left field to bring in two runs

  • Ivan Dahlberg doubled to right field to bring in two more runs

  • Mark Kattula brought him home as UIS took a 7-0 lead

  • UIndy wouldn't go down without a fight as they hit a three-run homer in the fifth

  • Johnny Wendling hit an RBI single in the sixth to give the Stars another run

  • Indianapolis made it a close game in the seventh as they scored three runs, but UIS won the game

  • Riley Moran (2-1) earned the win in 6 innings of work, striking out 4 and only allowing 3 runs

  • Kyle Tyler earned his third save of the year  

GAME TWO (L, 4-7)

  • The Prairie Stars took a 2-0 lead in the fourth through Johnny Wendling and Nick Melvin

  • UIndy scored in the fifth on a sacrifice fly

  • UIS added a run in the fifth as Brant Vanaman hit an RBI single

  • Ivan Dahlberg grounded out, but brought home another run as UIS took a 4-1 lead

  • Indianapolis used a big eighth inning to take the lead

  • The Greyhounds tied the game with an RBI single, an error, and a fielder's choice

  • UIndy took the lead on a three-run homer 

  • Lucan Kresin (2-1) took the loss on the mound
