The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team split a doubleheader against Rockhurst on Saturday in Kansas City. The #17 Prairie Stars move to 11-5 on the season, while the Hawks go to 9-5. 

GAME ONE (L, 4-10)

  • Rockhurst took a lead in the first on a throwing error

  • Drew Ezard hit an RBI single to make it 1-1 in the second 

  • RU took the lead back in the second with a 2-RBI single

  • The Hawks scored another on a wild pitch

  • Rockhurst went up 6-1 on another 2-RBI single

  • UIS plated a run in the fourth on a throwing error by the third baseman

  • Mark Kattula hit a home run in the fifth to cut the lead to three

  • Rockhurst scored four runs in the sixth behind a 2-RBI double and back-to-back walks 

  • Brant Vanaman tripled to right center in the seventh to score a run, but it was too little too late

  • Adam Lindsey (0-2) earned the loss in 4.0 IP, 6 ER, and 7 strikeouts

GAME TWO (W, 16-2)

  • UIS took a lead in the first inning with two RBI singles from Brant Vanaman and TJ Yakimisky

  • TJ Yakimisky ripped a triple in the second to bring in three runs and give the Stars a 5-0 lead

  • Yakimisky then scored and Drew Ezard reached on a fielding error

  • Rockhurst loaded the bases in the third, but only brought in one run off a walk

  • UIS opened up a huge gap in the fourth as they plated six runs

  • Ivan Dahlberg began it with an RBI single

  • Ty Hollandsworth walked to bring in another run

  • RU's pitcher then balked to make it 9-1 UIS

  • Jackson Blemler hit a 2-RBI single 

  • Brant Vanaman brought another run home with an RBI single

  • Rockhurst hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-2 UIS

  • Vanaman drove in another run with another RBI single

  • The Prairie Stars scored two more runs on passed balls

  • Jacyk Uehling was able to bring home another run to make it 16-2 UIS in the seventh

  • Jacob Newman (1-3) earned the win in 4.0 IP, 2 ER, and 7 strikeout's 

The Prairie Stars finish the series tomorrow against Rockhurst with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
