The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team fell in two hard-fought games to Indianapolis on Friday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field. The Prairie Stars drop to 18-13 on the season with a 9-9 record in GLVC play. Indianapolis improves to 19-10 on the season with a 15-3 record in conference play. 

GAME ONE (L, 3-4)

  • The Prairie Stars threatened early as they loaded the bases with no outs

  • Mark Kattula brought a runner home as he grounded into a double play to give UIS a 1-0 in the first 

  • UIndy loaded the bases in the fourth and was able to take the lead on an error

  • The Greyhounds followed that with a 2-RBI single to lead 4-1

  • The Prairie Stars were able to score twice in the seventh as Jacyk Uehling and Jackson Blemler both hit an RBI single to cut the Greyhound lead to 4-3

  • With guys on first and second, Johnny Wendling ripped a line drive to right field, but UIndy's right fielder made a diving play to end the inning

  • Gavin Wahlbrink (4-2) took the loss on the mound 

GAME TWO (L, 2-4)

  • Indy took the lead in the first with a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single to go up 2-0

  • UIndy added an insurance run in the fifth on a called balk

  • UIS cut into the lead on a 2-RBI double by Mark Kattula

  • Indianapolis added another run in the seventh on a walk with the bases loaded to go up 4-2, where the game would end

  • Jacob Newman (1-5) earned the loss on the mound

The Prairie Stars and Greyhounds conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader. First pitch of the first game is expected for 12:00 p.m.
