Does the Summer Scholars Academy cost any money?
No, everything will be paid for by the university. Room and board will be provided by the university during the on-campus portion of the program. Students are encouraged to bring spending money for field trips.
When does the Summer Scholars Academy begin and end?
The on-campus portion of Summer Scholars Academy will begin on June 17th and end on June 24th. The remote learning portion of the program will be from June 26th through August 11th.
Am I required to attend the on-campus portion of the program?
Yes, all Summer Scholars participants must commit to staying on campus from June 17th through June 24th.
I live in Springfield, do I still have to live on campus?
Yes, all Summer Scholars participants must commit to staying on campus from June 17th through June 24th.
What classes will be offered during the Summer Scholars Academy?
ENG 101, MAT 094, MAT 096, UNI 103
Why are these courses being offered?
ENG 101 and UNI 103 are required general education courses at UIS. Students who do well on the math placement test will take ENG 101 and UNI 103. Students who do not place into MAT 121 (when they take the placement test) will take either MAT 094 or MAT 096 AND UNI 103.
When do I take placement tests?
The math placement test will be administered during the on-campus portion of the Summer Scholars Academy.
What Orientation should I attend?
All students participating in the Summer Scholars Academy are encouraged to attend Orientation on June 24th (which is the last day of the on-campus portion of the Summer Scholars Academy).
