UIS Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 11 Union Despite Season-High Scoring Effort

The UIS women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against No. 11 Union on Saturday, falling 111-81 in a high-scoring matchup. Despite the loss, UIS recorded their highest-scoring game of the season by an 18-point margin.

Union took control early, using 12 UIS turnovers to build a 30-19 lead despite shooting just 37%, while UIS shot 61.5% in the first quarter
The Prairie Stars responded in the second quarter, shooting 68.75% from the field. Despite their offensive surge, Union outscored UIS 34-26, using timely three-pointers to extend their lead to 64-45 at halftime
The Bulldogs widened their lead with a 27-17 third quarter, leaving UIS unable to mount a comeback
The final quarter was more balanced, with Union narrowly outscoring UIS 20-19, but the Prairie Stars could not close the gap
UIS shot an efficient 52.2% from the field and 31.6% from three-point range, but Union's 22 made three-pointers and 40 points off turnovers ultimately proved to be the difference. The Bulldogs also dominated on second-chance opportunities, outscoring UIS 26-16 in that category
Kayla Rice led UIS with 21 points on 47.1% shooting, while Emari Doby and Diavian Mehundrew each added 18 points. Doby also grabbed six rebounds, and Mehundrew shot 43.8% from the field. Niyah Udoiwod delivered a standout performance in the post, recording her first career double-double with 14 points on 70% shooting and 10 rebounds
