The University of Illinois Springfield softball team dropped the final two games of its Florida trip on Wednesday, falling 6-2. 4-2 to West Chester.
GAME ONE (L, 6-2)
- WCU went up 4-0 in the early innings of the game
- Taylor Zawacki stole home in the bottom of the second to put UIS on the board
- UIS continued to chip away at the WCU lead in the third inning. Nyla Cooper advanced to third base on Malia Bender's sac bunt and scored on an error by the WCU pitcher
- UIS would leave four runners stranded in the remainder of the game
- WCU scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings
- Addyson McClure had the start in the circle, striking out four in the first two innings. Taylor Zawacki entered in the third, allowing one earned run and striking out four over the final five innings. McClure fell to 1-2 with the loss.
- UIS, the away team in the second game of the day, put up two runs in the top of the first
- Malia bender reached first on the uncaight third strike and Ella Brinkley scored on the wild pitch
- Bender would go on to score on a single by Isabella Wilson
- It was not until the bottom of the sixth that another run was scored. West Chester plated four runs, the first when a single was followed up with a triple. Another sequence of a single and a double allowed a third run to score, and the fourth run came across on a sac fly
- Alexis Carroll went all six innings in the circle, falling to 6-3 with the loss
