No. 7 the University of Illinois Springfield baseball team woke up Great Lakes Valley Conference champions Monday morning and now turn their focus to the NCAA Tournament.
It's the Prairie Stars fourth consecutive season competing in the NCAA Division 2 Tournament. They earned the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region and head to Detroit this weekend to face Ashland. This won't be the first time these two teams meet. UIS and Ashland competed in the 2019 NCAA Super Regional, which the Eagles won. The Star boys are looking to repeat their 2019 success and leave their 2021 early tournament exit behind them when they lost in the regionals.
UIS won the conference tournament title for the first time in program history Sunday beating Quincy University 16-3.
