The No. 24 University of Illinois Springfield baseball team fell to the William Jewell Cardinals by a score of 5-4 on Friday afternoon.
Game Summary
  • William Jewell scored the first five runs of the day, three coming in the second inning on a three-run homer 
  • A pair of doubles in the third made it a 5-0 game
  • The Cardinals outhit the Prairie Stars 7-5 over the first five innings but UIS had the advantage by the end of the game, 12-9
  • UIS had its first multi-hit inning in the sixth. Mark Kattula reached on a single before TJ Yakimisky grounded into a double play. Mack Clark doubled but was left stranded
  • A two-run shot by Jacyk Uehling gave UIS new life. Jackson Blemler then doubled after a pitching change and scored on a Mark Kattula single
  • Adam Wibbenmeyer entered to pitch for UIS in the seventh to relieve starter Gavin Wahlbrink
  • Mack Clark homered in the eighth
  • The Cardinals came out swinging in their half of the inning but UIS maintained composure and Wibbenmeyer ended the inning with a strikeout
  • William Jewell closed it with a 1-2-3 inning
