The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team won an up-and-down Game Two in extra innings against Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at UIS Baseball Field. The Prairie Stars also won Game Three in comeback fashion to complete the weekend sweep. No. 20 UIS moves to 9-4 on the season as Trevecca drops to 6-6 on the year. 

GAME ONE (W, 6-5 9 inn.)

  • The Prairie Stars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning with two 2-RBI doubles from Mark Kattula and Ivan Dahlberg

  • TNU scored two runs in the second inning on a fielder's choice and an RBI groundout

  • The Trojans added another run in the fourth on an RBI double to cut the UIS lead to 4-3

  • Trevecca tied the game in the fifth with another RBI double

  • TNU took their first lead in the seventh inning when Cooper Whitt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded

  • Clark Morgan came into the game and got out of the jam with a double play

  • UIS started their seventh inning with two fly outs, but Jacyk Uehling was able to reach on an infield single

  • Down to their last strike, Jackson Blemler ripped a double into left field to bring home the tying run

  • In the bottom of the ninth, Johnny Colombo dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance runners to second and third

  • Jacyk Uehling came up and hit a walk-off single up the middle to give the Prairie Stars a 6-5 win

GAME TWO (W, 9-6)

  • UIS took a lead in the first inning as Mack Clark reached on an error, bringing in Brant Vanaman

  • The Prairie Stars took a 2-0 lead in the second inning off a Johnny Colombo homer 

  • Trevecca tied the game in the fourth on a two-run homer

  • The Trojans then loaded the bases and took the lead on a walk

  • TNU added to their lead with a groundout to take a 4-2 advantage

  • TJ Yakimisky drove in a run in the fifth to make it a one run game

  • Trevecca got the run right back in the top of the sixth with an RBI single

  • UIS was able to cut into the lead as Johnny Colombo laid down a perfect bunt causing the third baseman to make a throwing error, which brought a runner around to score

  • Jackson Blemler tied the game at 5 with an RBI single

  • With two outs in the sixth, TJ Yakimisky gave the Stars the lead again with a two-RBI single to right field

  • Mack Clark then reached on an error by the left fielder, making it an 8-5 game

  • Yakimisky came around to score on an error by the Trevecca catcher, making it 9-5 UIS

  • TNU made it interesting in the seventh with a home run to make it 8-6 

  • The Trojans proceeded to load the bases, but Riley Moran forced the TNU batter to fly out
