Dr. Angela Doehring is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Exercise Science with the School of Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Springfield, where she has been faculty since 2016. In addition, she has previously held both full-time and part-time faculty positions at other institutions. Prior to her time in academia, Angela worked in the health and fitness industry in various fields, including Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Personal Fitness Training. Doehring received a dual title Ph.D. in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention/ Gerontology from Purdue University. She also completed a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Northeastern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Wellness from Ball State University.

Involvement

Dr. Doehring's experience in academia and additional career experiences have afforded her the unique opportunity to develop an extensive record of service. This service includes various health-related advocacy efforts from local through governmental level, including being invited to testify on SB2572 before an IL House Committee regarding physical activity/ education legislation. Her involvement in professional organizations within her field., as well as participation on different committees throughout the University is also quite extensive. One of the most important aspects to all of this service though, is how Dr. Doehring is able to extend this to the classroom, offering novel and creative aspects to her teaching and learning for her students. As such, she continues to serve as an Advocate with several organizations, including the American Heart Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.
