Non-Degree Seeking Applicants

Applying and Registering

1. Complete an Application for Admission selecting the Non-Degree Application type. Please note, Non-Degree Students are not typically eligible for Financial Aid.
2. Get Admitted. Typically within two days.
   1. View the next steps for Admitted Students.
   2. You will get an email with your activation token. This email contains your user ID and password for your UIS account.
3. Use your new UIS account/credentials to register online for your classes.

Transferability of Credit Hours

UIS participates in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) and this statewide agreement allows for transferability of courses easily between participating institutions. With over 100 participating institutions, we hope your process will be stress-free. We encourage you to speak with your advisor to determine which courses to take and how to transfer them to your home institution without issue. Visit Transferology™ and iTransfer.org to learn more about transfer equivalency and how to successfully transfer. Transferology is a free service that will show you how your credits will transfer to UIS.

Non-Degree Admission

Undergraduate non-degree seeking students are not required to file all documents necessary for admission to a degree program, but will be asked for clarification of their educational intent before exceeding 16 semester hours. Non-degree students are subject to the same academic probation and suspension policies as degree-seeking students.

Students who later choose to become degree candidates will be required to meet all admission requirements of their program. With the degree program’s approval, up to 16 semester hours taken as an undergraduate non-degree student may count toward the degree. A non-degree declaration form must be on file for continued enrollment as a non-degree student beyond 16 hours. Non-degree students typically are not eligible for financial assistance.
