On July 24, 2026, a federal district court ruled that undocumented students are no longer eligible to receive financial assistance from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) for the 2026-2027 school year. Please visit the Illinois Student Assistance Commission website for up-to-date information.
Undocumented Student Resources
The University of Illinois Springfield is committed to supporting undocumented students in their goal of attaining a college degree. While undocumented and DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) students do not qualify for federal aid through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student aid), there are other resources available to help with educational costs.
Retention of Illinois Students & Equity (RISE) Act
The RISE Act is currently considered unlawful, based on a recent federal court ruling. The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid is not currently available to students.
Visit the ISAC FAQs for more details and information regarding the status of the RISE Act.
