The Department of Residence Life areas have several washer and dryer machines located in each of the residential areas. Each Court has a designated laundry room as well as each floor in the residence halls.

All machines are free to operate and no money is required! You just need to select your cycle and press start. As the laundry is free there is no need to overload any machine in an attempt to save money.

All machines are owned and maintained by an outside contractor called CSC Service Works. The Department of Residence Life Facilities cannot service these machines and any student that has an issue with a laundry machine should reach out directly to CSC Service Works by calling them at 1-877-264-6622 or by submitting a service request directly at CSCSW Request Service. Please do not attempt to submit DRL Work Order Requests for vending area machines.

The Department of Residence Life highly recommends downloading and using the CSC Go Mobile App. This app will show real time usage of the machines and can help you keep track of when a washer and/or dryer is available for use. Remember that as the laundry is free to residents at UIS, you will not need to add any funds to your account.

Laundry Room Use

If you have never done your own laundry before or if our equipment is different than what you are used to, please do not hesitate to contact the Resident Assistant (RA), Assistant Resident Director (ARD), Area Coordinator (AC), or Front Desk staff for assistance.

  1. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please do not prop open or provide access to the laundry rooms for anyone that you are not sure is a resident for that court or residence hall.
  2. Keep a watchful eye on the clock. Other residents are allowed to remove items that have set unattended in the laundry machines in order to use the machine themselves. Be courteous to others.
  3. The Department of Residence is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items. If desired, you may stay in the laundry rooms while using the machines.

Helpful Hints for Care of Your Clothing

  • The CSC Go App should be checked before heading to the laundry room to save yourself an unneeded trip with dirty laundry.
  • Read clothing care labels. Not all garments and sheets have the same care instructions. Failure to follow directions may result in damaging your items.
  • Make sure you have the correct high efficiency detergent for your clothing. Do not use any other kind of soap other than laundry detergent or laundry pods. The machines may be damaged if using the wrong soap.
  • Bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets are optional. Use per directions and at your own discretion. We recommend using color safe bleach if you wish to use bleach.
  • Use the correct amounts of detergent, bleach, and/or fabric softener. Using too much of any may cause damage to your clothing and too much detergent will not get your clothes cleaned and will leave them filled with soap.
  • When using laundry liquid detergent or liquid fabric softener, these items go into the liquid dispenser trays, in the marked spots, of the washer. If using laundry pods, they must go into the washer along with the clothing. Never place pods in the liquid disperser trays. We also recommend using color safe bleach if you wish to use any bleach at all.
  • Separate your whites from bright/dark colors
  • Sweaters, blankets, and jeans are heavier items when wet so you will need to place less in the machines to prevent overloading.
  • Do not overload any machine. Overloading the machines will cause damage to the machines as well as the clothing. It can also lock the machine up trapping the clothing until a technician from CSC Service Works can respond. Other issues may cause the clothing to still retain soap after the rinse cycle and/or clothing not drying properly.
  • Select the proper wash cycle:
    • Wash Whites – In hot water and rinse in cold water (normal cycle)
    • Wash Bright Colors – In cold water and rinse in cold water (normal cycle)
    • Wash Dark Colors – In cold water and rinse in cold water (normal cycle)
    • Wash Jeans – In warm or cold water and rinse in cold water (normal cycle)
    • Wash Dress Shirts/Pants – In cold water and rinse in cold water (delicate cycle)
  • Finally, dry clothes in the same separate piles you washed them in.
