Reverse Transfer
Per the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (STAR) 110 ILCS 150/23, transfer students from a public community college in Illinois whom did not receive an associate’s degree have the opportunity to participate in a reverse transfer program. Credits successfully completed at UIS may be transferred back to the community college and used to fulfill the remaining requirements for their associate’s degree. The community college will evaluate the UIS work and determine if credits taken at UIS will fulfill any remaining requirements. A student who has attended any Illinois community college is eligible to take advantage of this policy
UIS will send a copy of your UIS transcript back to your former community college at no cost to you.

If you transferred to the University of Illinois Springfield from a community college without completing all the requirements for your associate’s degree it may be possible to complete the credits you need using University of Illinois Springfield courses by reverse transferring your UIS credits to your community college.
Who is eligible for Reverse Transfer?

The reverse transfer of credit option is available to any student who is currently enrolled and taking classes at the University of Illinois Springfield and has earned:
- Earned at least 15 hours of transferable academic credit at an Illinois community college.
- Completed a cumulative total of at least 60 credit hours of transferable credit at UIS and previously attended postsecondary institutions.
How do students participate in Reverse Transfer?

Information will be sent from the Office of Records and Registration to currently enrolled students each semester who are potentially eligible to participate. Interested students have the opportunity to opt-in by completing the Reverse Transfer (Transcript Release) Form, releasing a transcript to the selected, previously attended, community college. UIS will then send a copy of the student's transcript to the specified community college for review. The student will need to contact the specified community college to complete the application process for the potential awarding of an associate's degree.
