Dear Campus Community:
The Public Affairs Center (PAC) will temporarily close from Tuesday, May 12, to Monday, June 8 to support the completion of our major plumbing infrastructure project, which requires a full building water shutdown.
During this time, all units housed in PAC will operate from temporary or remote locations. This includes key student services, academic programs, and administrative offices such as:
- UIS Performing Arts Center
- Sangamon Auditorium
- UIS Studio Theatre
- Sangamon Experience
- Center for Lincoln Studies
- Office of Electronic Media
- Campus Senate
- Academic division and programs, including Criminology & Criminal Justice, Environmental Studies, Legal Studies, Public Health, Pre-Law Center, School of Politics and International Affairs, School of Public Management and Policy, and Public Affairs Reporting
- College of Public Affairs and Education
- Illinois Innocence Project
- Center for State Policy and Leadership
- Academic Affairs/Provost’s Office
- Provost’s Office Administration
- Academic Integrity
- Academic Resources and Business Operations
- Faculty Affairs
- Graduate Assistantships
- Graduate Education
- Institutional Research and Effectiveness
- Research and Innovation
- Student Success and Undergraduate Education
- Chancellor’s Office
- Chancellor’s Office Administration
- Campus Legal Counsel
- Community and Governmental Relations
- Strategic Communication
- Marketing & Brand Strategy
- Media Strategy
- Web & Digital Strategy
- Division of Advancement
Unit leaders are coordinating relocation plans and will communicate specific arrangements directly with their teams and audiences. To ensure continuity of service:
- Units should update websites with temporary contact information
- Door signage and QR codes should direct visitors to updated locations
- Visitors are encouraged to contact offices via phone or email before visiting in person
If construction progresses as planned, major plumbing work is expected to be substantially complete by mid-June. Final clean-up is expected by mid-July, allowing units to move back into the building at that time.
While some finishing work may continue, we are hopeful that most units will return by late July, with full operations resuming before the start of the fall semester. The Performing Arts Center is planning to host events beginning in October, which serves as a key milestone for full building readiness.
We recognize the complexity of relocating so many campus services and appreciate your patience and flexibility as we complete this critical infrastructure improvement.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
